Selenium

Located at Group 16 and Period 4 of the Periodic Table is the element found in the Anti - Dandruff Shampoo. This is Selenium.

Jons Jacob Berzelius
Johan Gottlieb Gahn

First discovered by Jons Jacob Berzelius, a Swedish chemist and Johan Gottlieb Gahn, another Swedish chemist at 1817 and first isolated also by Jons Jacob Berzelius and Johan Gottlieb Gahn in 1817.

Selenium exists in three forms, red, gray and black. Selenium is the element we need in just the right amount in order to keep our bodies healthy.

However, although Selenium is is good for our bodies, its compound can be very toxic. But, Selenium's compounds are mainly used for good purposes, such as shampoos, face washers and more. So, Selenium is considered to be good to us.

How Selenium got its name?
It was Berzelius who discovered selenium in 1817, as an impurity in sulfuric acid. Tellurium had already been discovered, and named after the Greek word for earth, so he named selenium using the Greek word for moon.
